"This is the Anchor our souls have... " - Hebrews 6, 19
According to the Cambridge Dictionary, an anchor is a heavy metal object attached to a boat by a rope or chain that, when dropped into the water and resting on the bottom, keeps the boat from moving. An anchor is also someone or something that gives support when needed.
Sometimes we have things, people or situations that play a role of anchors in our lives. The problem arises when we lose that anchors, and that is because when time goes all things of this world eventually reveal what incapable anchors they really are.
When our identity is tied to things of this world, we are in risk to become extremely insecure because those things are unpredictable and ever-changing. Every day we rise and fall with successes and failures. We feel treasured when complimented but tormented when criticized.
We live our lives in a constant despair to keep relationships that makes us feel valuable and loved, as well as persistently terrified with the possibility of that person slipping away, and all because we do not just feel like we are losing them, we actually feel like we are losing a big part of ourselves.
It's time to stop the lies and devastating hurt stemming from this kind of circumstantial identity. Our identity must be anchored to the truth of who God is and who He is to us. We must tie our identities to our unchanging, unflinching, unyielding, undeniable good, and unquestionably loving God. "Since you have been raised up to be with Christ, you must look for the things that are above, where Christ is, sitting at God's right hand. Let your thoughts be on things above, not on the things that are on the earth," - Colossians 3, 1-2.
Dear God, give us a hunger for Your Word,
so our hope can be fueled by You
Specially when we be wading troubled waters,
strengthen our faith to trust that You are hearing our prayers.
Help us to remember that You are the only Anchor
that could keeps our soul safe
as You are always faithfully with us
consistently fulfilling all Your everlasting promises.
Amen.
